Ibn Abi Ya'la said: The shaykh of the faction in his time, and its foremost in condemning the people of innovation, and opposing them with hand and tongue. He had renown with the ruler, precedence among the companions, and he was one of the knowledgeable Imams, the precise preservers of the foundations, and the trustworthy believers.
Ibn Kathir said: The scholar, the ascetic, the Hanbali jurist, the preacher... And he was severe against the people of innovation and disobedience, and he was of great status, venerated by the elite and the common people.
