Al-Hasan and Ibn Sirin said: It should be washed once.

And Tawus (44) said: It should be washed seven times, like a dog.

Abu Dawud narrated with his chain of narration from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he mentioned the hadith and said: "If a cat (45) laps from it, it should be washed once."

Our evidence is what was narrated from Kabshah bint Ka'b ibn Malik, who was married to Abu Qatadah, that Abu Qatadah entered upon her and she poured water for him for ablution. She said: A cat came and he inclined (46) the vessel for it until it drank. Kabshah said: He saw me looking at him, so he said: "Are you surprised, O daughter of my brother?" I said: "Yes." He replied: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'It is not impure; it is among those who go around (al-tawwafin) among you.'" Abu Dawud [al-Nasa'i, and al-Tirmidhi] (47) narrated it, and he (48) said: This is a hasan sahih hadith. This is the best thing on this subject. [This] (49) has indicated by its wording the negation of dislike regarding the leftover water of a cat, and by its reasoning the negation of dislike regarding what is smaller than it from among those who go around among us. Ibn Majah narrated from 'Aishah, who said: I used to perform ablution, I
