Al-Mughni by Ibn Qudama - Edited by Al-Turki

Translation · EN

Our evidence is that the original state is [the purity of the water] (56), and the water touching the place of impurity is doubtful; for the exit point closes when the animal falls into the water, so certainty is not removed by doubt.

Section: Every animal's skin, hair, sweat, tears, and saliva have the same status as its leftover water regarding purity and impurity; because the status of impurity is only established in the leftover water at the place that [became impure by coming into contact with] (57) the animal's saliva and body. If it were pure, its leftover water would be pure, and if it were impure, its leftover water would be impure.

8 - Issue: He said: (And every vessel in which an impurity has entered, from the lapping of a dog, or urine, or otherwise, it must be washed seven times, one of which is with earth).

Impurity is divided into two categories:

The first is the impurity of a dog, a pig, and whatever is produced from them. There is no disagreement within the school that it is mandatory to wash it seven times, one of which is with earth, and this is the position of al-Shafi'i.

It is related from Ahmad that it must be washed eight times, one of which is with earth. This was reported from al-Hasan, based on the hadith of 'Abd Allah ibn al-Mughaffal, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "If a dog laps from a vessel, wash it seven times and scour it the eighth time with earth." Narrated by Muslim (1).

The first narration is more correct (2), and this hadith is interpreted as counting the earth as an eighth because
