And the use of cat skins was disliked by ‘Ata’, Tawus, Mujahid, and ‘Ubayda al-Salmani (17).
Jabir permitted the use of the skins of predatory animals, and it was narrated from Ibn Sirin and ‘Urwa that they permitted riding on leopard skins, and al-Zuhri permitted them.
Al-Hasan, al-Sha’bi, and the Ashab al-Ra’y (proponents of opinion) permitted praying in fox skins because foxes are among the animals for which a ransom is due in the state of Ihram; therefore, they are permissible, and also because of the evidence established regarding the purification of carcass skins through tanning.
As for us, we rely on what Abu Rayhana narrated, saying: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, forbade riding on leopard skins. It was recorded by Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah (18). From Mu’awiya and al-Miqdam ibn Ma’dikarib, it is narrated that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, forbade the wearing of the skins of predatory animals and riding upon them. It was recorded by Abu Dawud (19). It was also narrated that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, forbade the spreading out of the skins of predatory animals. It was recorded by al-Tirmidhi (20) and recorded by Abu Dawud (21), and its wording (22) is that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, forbade the skins of predatory animals, in addition to the aforementioned prohibition by the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, against benefiting from anything of the carcass.
