the Almighty saying: {Wash your faces}. Al-Awza'i and Sa'id ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz (1) said: Wudu' is performed three times each, except for washing the feet, for which he cleanses them [thoroughly]. It has been narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that he said: The Prophet (may the peace and blessings of God be upon him) performed wudu' once each [for each member]. Narrated by Al-Bukhari (2). Abu Hurayra narrated that the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of God be upon him) performed wudu' twice each. Narrated by Al-Tirmidhi (3), who said: This is a hasan gharib (good, singular) hadith. From 'Ali, it is narrated that the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of God be upon him) performed wudu' three times each (4). Al-Tirmidhi said: The hadith of 'Ali is the best and most authentic thing in this chapter. Sa'id said: Sallam al-Tawil narrated to us, from Zayd al-'Ammi, from Mu'awiya ibn Qurra, from Ibn 'Umar, that the Messenger of God (may the peace and blessings of God be upon him) requested water, then performed wudu' once each, and then said: "This is the wudu' [performed in] the measure of wudu', the wudu' of the one whose prayer God does not accept except by it." Then he spoke for a while, then requested water and performed wudu' twice each, and said: "This is the wudu' of one who, if he performs it, God will double his reward twice." Then he spoke for a while, then requested water and performed wudu' three times each, and said: "This is my wudu' and the wudu' of the Prophets before me" (5). Ibn Majah narrated with his chain of transmission from Ubayy ibn Ka'b from the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of God be upon him) the like of this, and Muslim narrated in his Sahih (6), that 'Uthman requested
