This reconciles the hadiths, thus making it necessary to adopt this conclusion. It is also narrated from Ahmad that it is permissible to turn one's back to the Kaaba both inside a building and in open spaces, based on what Ibn Umar narrated, saying: "One day, I climbed onto the roof of Hafsah's house and saw the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, answering the call of nature, facing Syria and turning his back to the Kaaba." Agreed upon.
Section: It is disliked to face the sun or the moon with one's private parts, due to the light of Allah the Exalted that they contain. However, if one is shielded from them by something, then there is no harm, because if it is permissible when shielded from the Qibla, then it is more appropriate here. It is also disliked to face the wind, so that the spray of urine does not return upon one, thus defiling oneself.
Section: It is recommended to be shielded from people. If one finds a wall, a sand dune, a tree, or a camel, one should use it as a shield; if one finds nothing, one should move away until no one can see him, based on what was narrated from the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, that he said: "Whoever goes to relieve himself should find cover; if he finds nothing but a mound of sand, he should turn his back to it." It was also narrated from him, peace and blessings be upon him, that he went out with a shield (daraqa) and used it as cover, then urinated. From Jabir, who said: When the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, wished to relieve himself, he would go until no one could see him. "Al-baraz" refers to an open area, and answering the call of nature was named after it because it is where it is carried out. From al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah, who said: When the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, would go out, he would move far away.
