with a sa' up to five mudds. It was also narrated by al-Bukhari. (12)

It is disliked to be extravagant with water and to increase its use excessively, due to the traditions we have narrated. 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) passed by Sa'd while he was performing wudu, and he said: "What is this extravagance?" He replied: "Is there extravagance in wudu?" He said: "Yes, even if you are on a flowing river." Narrated by Ibn Majah. (13) From Ubayy ibn Ka'b, he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "There is a devil for wudu called: Walhan, so beware of the whispers of water." (14) It used to be said: "From the man's lack of understanding is his obsession with water."

62 - Issue; He said: (And the woman unbraids her hair for her ghusl from menstruation, but she is not required to unbraid it for janabah (1) if she has moistened its roots.)

Ahmad explicitly stated this. Muhanna said: I asked Ahmad about a woman unbraiding her hair when she performs ghusl from janabah? He said: No. I said to him: Is there anything [evidence] on this? He said: Yes, the hadith of Umm Salamah. (2) I said: So she unbraids her hair from menstruation? He said: Yes. I said to him: And how does she unbraid it from menstruation and not unbraid it from janabah? He said: The hadith of Asma' (3) from the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he said: "She does not unbraid it." The school of thought does not differ on the fact that it is not obligatory to unbraid it for janabah, and I know of no disagreement among the scholars regarding this, except what was narrated from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar. Ahmad narrated in the "Musnad" (4),
