Translation · EN

For she adds to the first what completes the minimum of menstruation. Thus, if she sees blood for one day and [purity for] one day, she joins the third to the first; they are considered menstruation in the first and second instances, then she transitions to what recurred in the third or fourth instance, according to the two different views. If she sees less than the minimum of menstruation, then is pure for thirteen days, then sees blood like that, and we say the minimum of purity is thirteen days, it is corrupt blood (dam fasad); because it cannot be a single menstruation due to the separation by the minimum of purity between them, nor two menstruations due to each of them being less than the minimum of menstruation. If we say the minimum of purity is fifteen days, we join the first to the second, so they are a single menstruation once they reach the minimum of menstruation when combined. If each of the two bloods reaches the minimum of menstruation, they are two menstruations if we say the minimum of purity is thirteen days. If we say it is fifteen days, we join the second to the first, so they are one menstruation if there is no more than fifteen days between their endpoints. If there are fifteen days between their endpoints, it is impossible to designate both as menstruation, so one is designated as menstruation and the other as istihadah. Measure other cases by this.

106 - Issue: He said: "The pregnant woman does not menstruate, unless she sees it two or three days before her delivery, in which case it is blood of nifas (postnatal bleeding)."

The madhhab of Abu Abd Allah (Ahmad ibn Hanbal), may Allah have mercy on him, is that the pregnant woman does not menstruate, and what she sees of blood is blood of corruption (dam fasad). This is the opinion of the majority of the Tabi'un; among them are Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib, 'Ata', al-Hasan, Jabir ibn Zayd, 'Ikrimah, Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, al-Sha'bi, Makhul, Hammad, al-Thawri, al-Awza'i, Abu Hanifah, Ibn al-Mundhir, Abu 'Ubayd, and Abu Thawr. It was narrated from 'A'ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, and the correct view from her is that if she sees blood, she does not pray.
