Jurayj (4) who said: "I saw the jars of Hajar, and the qullah holds two qirabs or two qirabs and a little more." Thus, it is more cautious to count it as two and a half qirabs.

Al-Athram (5) and Isma'il ibn Sa'id (6) narrated from Ahmad that the two qullahs are four qirabs, and Ibn al-Mundhir cited this from Ahmad in his book. This is based on what al-Juzajani (7) narrated with his chain of transmission from Yahya ibn 'Aqil (8), who said: "I saw the jars of Hajar, and I believe each qullah holds two qirabs." Similar was narrated from Ibn Jurayj.

Those who determined the water by qirabs have agreed upon estimating each qirab as one hundred Iraqi ratls; I know of no disagreement among them regarding this. Perhaps they took this from those who tested the qirabs of the Hijaz and knew that this was their measure.

We specifically limited this to the jars of Hajar for two reasons:

One of them is that it has been narrated in a hadith that makes it explicit, narrated by al-Khattabi (9) in Ma'alim al-Sunan (10) with his chain of transmission to Ibn Jurayj, from the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) as a mursal report: "When the water is two qullahs, by the measure of the jars of Hajar," and he mentioned the hadith.
