and al-Tirmidhi, who said: "A hasan sahih (good and authentic) hadith," and the practice of the scholars among the Companions of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) is in accordance with it, including Umar ibn al-Khattab, Uthman, and Abdullah ibn Umar. This is also the view of the jurists among the Successors (Tabi'in). It has been narrated from Ali, Ibn Mas'ud, and Ibn Abbas. Ibn Mas'ud said: "The muhallil (intervening husband) and the one for whom she is made lawful are cursed upon the tongue of Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace)." Ibn Majah narrated from Uqbah ibn Amir that the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Shall I inform you of the 'hired he-goat'?" They said: "Yes, [O Messenger of Allah]." He said: "He is the muhallil. Allah has cursed the muhallil and the one for whom she is made lawful." Al-Athram narrated with his chain of narration from Qabisah ibn Jabir, who said: "I heard Umar while he was addressing the people, saying: "By Allah, I will not be brought anyone who acts as a muhill (intervening husband) or for whom she is made lawful except that I will stone them both."
