As for clothing not intended for beautification by dyeing, such as kohl-colored, black, or deep green, she is not prohibited from wearing them, as they are not forms of adornment. Regarding that which is dyed in the yarn and then woven, there are two potential interpretations: the first is that it is forbidden to wear, as it is finer and more beautiful, and because it is dyed for beauty, thus resembling that which is dyed after weaving. The second is that it is not forbidden, due to the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) in the hadith of Umm Salama: "Except for a garment of 'asb" (27), which is what is dyed in the yarn before weaving. This was mentioned by al-Qadi, and because it was not dyed while it was already a garment, it resembles beautiful garments that are not dyed. The first is more correct. As for 'asb, the correct view is that it is a plant used to dye garments. The author of al-Rawd al-Unuf (28) said: "Wars and 'asb are two plants (29) in Yemen, which do not grow anywhere else." Thus, the Prophet (peace be upon him) granted a concession for the woman in mourning (30) to wear what is dyed with 'asb, because it is similar in meaning to that which is dyed for purposes other than beautification. As for that which is dyed in the yarn for beautification, such as red and yellow, there is no logic in permitting its wear while adornment is achieved by its dyeing, just as it is achieved by what is dyed after weaving. She is not prohibited from wearing beautiful garments that are not dyed, even if they are fine, whether made of cotton, linen, or silk (31), because their beauty is part of their inherent nature, so she is not required to alter it, just as if a woman is naturally beautiful, she is not required to change her color or disfigure herself. The third category is jewelry. It is forbidden for her to wear any jewelry, even a ring, according to the general body of scholars, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him): "And no jewelry." Ata' said: "Silver jewelry is permitted, unlike gold." This is not correct because the prohibition is general, and because jewelry increases her beauty and invites intimacy. A woman once said (32):

Jewelry is naught but an adornment for a deficiency, It completes a beauty when beauty falls short.
