and the hantam (earthenware jar), the naqir (hollowed-out log), and the muzaffat (pitch-coated vessel); for the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) forbade preparing nabidh in them (6). The dubba' is the gourd (7). The hantam are jars. The naqir is wood. The muzaffat is that which is coated with zift (pitch). The correct view is the former, because Burayda narrated that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "I had forbidden you three things, and I [now] command you regarding them: I forbade you from drinks unless (8) you drink them in leather containers; so drink from every vessel, and do not drink [that which is] intoxicating." Reported by Muslim (9). This is evidence for the abrogation of the prohibition, and there is no legal effect for the abrogated [ruling].
Section: The mixing of two types of fruit (khalitayn) is disliked, which is that two things be soaked together in water; because the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) forbade the mixing of two types (10). Ahmad said: "The mixing of two types is forbidden." He also said concerning a man who soaks raisins, tamarind, jujube, and the like—soaking them in the morning and drinking them in the evening as medicine: "I dislike it; because it is nabidh, but rather he should cook it and drink it immediately." Abu Dawud (11) has narrated, with his chain of transmission from the Messenger of Allah
