seventy-three men, each man of them for four hundred (10). On the day of Badr, he also ransomed one man for two men (11), and the owner of al-'Adba' for two men (12). As for killing, it is because (13) the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) killed the men of Banu Qurayza, and they were between six hundred and seven hundred (14). He also killed al-Nadr ibn al-Harith and 'Uqba ibn Abi Mu'ayt on the day of Badr by patience (sabran) (15), and he killed Abu 'Azza on the day of Uhud. These are stories that became widespread and well-known, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did them on several occasions, which is evidence of their permissibility. And because each of these categories may be more beneficial in some prisoners; for among them is one who has strength and inflicts harm upon the Muslims, and his remaining is a harm
