She asked: "Have you done it?" (11) He replied: "I have not done it." She said: "Then recite [it]." (12) He recited:
I bear witness that the promise of Allah is true And that the Fire is the abode of the disbelievers And that the Throne is floating above the water And above the Throne is the Lord of the worlds And it is carried by mighty angels Angels of the God, marked [for battle].
She said: "Since you have recited, then go." (13) He went to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and informed him. He said (14): "I saw him laughing until his molars appeared, and he was saying: 'Hey, what did you say?' And I would repeat it to him, and he would laugh (15)."
Section: If a man has intercourse with his slave girl and she gives birth (16) to a child six months or more after his intercourse with her, his lineage is attached to him, and by that, she becomes an umm al-walad. If she gives birth to a fully developed child in less than six months, his lineage is not attached to him, because the minimum period of pregnancy is six months, based on what al-Hasan narrated, that a woman gave birth at six months. She was brought (17) to Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, and he intended to stone her. Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, said to him: "You do not have that [right], for Allah says: {And his gestation and his weaning [period] is thirty months} (18). It may be that [the fetus] remains in the womb for six months, and the nursing is twenty-four months; that is the total of what Allah the Almighty said: {thirty months}." So Umar released her (19). It was also narrated from Ibn Abbas that he said this to Uthman (20). Whoever acknowledges having had intercourse with his slave girl, and she gives birth to a child who could possibly be his, his lineage is attached to him, and he
