seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, from the punishment of the Fire, from the trial of life and death, and from the trial of the False Messiah (Al-Masih al-Dajjal)." (Agreed upon) (2). Muslim adds: "If one of you performs the Tashahhud, let him seek refuge (in Allah) from four things," and he mentioned it (2).
180 - Issue: He said: "If one supplicates in his Tashahhud with what has been mentioned in the reports (narrations), there is no harm."
The summary of this is that supplication in prayer with that which has been transmitted in the reports is permissible. Al-Athram said: I said to Abu Abdullah (Imam Ahmad): "These people say that one should not supplicate in the obligatory prayer except with what is in the Quran." He shook his hand as if angry and said: "Who is it that maintains this, when the Hadiths from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) have been reported in succession to the contrary of what they say!" I said to Abu Abdullah: "When he sits in the fourth (rak'ah), does he supplicate after the Tashahhud with whatever he wishes?" He said: "With whatever he wishes? I do not know, but he should supplicate with what he knows and what has been transmitted." I said: "Based on the hadith of Amr ibn Sa'd, he said: I heard Abdullah (ibn Mas'ud) say: 'When one of you sits in his prayer, and mentions the Tashahhud, then let him say: O Allah, I ask You for all good, what I have known of it and what I have not known, and I seek refuge in You from all evil, what I have known of it and what I have not known. O Allah, I ask You for the best of what Your righteous servants have asked of You, and I seek refuge in You from the worst of what Your righteous servants have sought refuge from. Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire. Our Lord..."
