the Dawn prayer, and when he delivered the taslim, he would turn away. It was narrated from Ali that he led a people in the Afternoon (Asr) prayer, then he leaned his back towards the qibla and faced the people. [Both were narrated by al-Athram] (112). [Said ibn al-Musayyib said: "For a man to sit on a heated stone (113) is better for him than to sit facing the qibla when he delivers the taslim without turning away." Ibrahim said: "If the Imam delivers the taslim and then faces the qibla, pelt him with pebbles (i.e., rebuke him)."] (114) Al-Athram said: I saw Abu Abd Allah (Ahmad) when he delivered the taslim, he would turn and sit cross-legged (115). Abu Dawud said: I saw him when he was an imam, and when he delivered the taslim, he would turn to his right. [Muslim and Abu Dawud in 'al-Sunan' narrated from] (116) Jabir ibn Samurah, who said: The Prophet -peace be upon him- used to, when he prayed the Dawn prayer, sit cross-legged (117) in his place of prayer until the sun rose well (118). [In one wording: He used to, when he prayed the Dawn, sit in his place of prayer until the sun rose. From Sa'd, who said: I used to see the Messenger of Allah -peace be upon him- not stand from his place of prayer where he prayed the Morning prayer until the sun rose; when it rose, he stood up. Both were narrated by Muslim] (119). [Ahmad was asked about the interpretation of the Prophet's -peace be upon him- hadith: "He would not sit after the taslim except for the duration of saying: O Allah, You are the Peace (120)," meaning while in his seat before turning away. He said: I do not know. Al-Athram narrated these hadiths which we have mentioned.] (121)
