The second [view] is that he should not perform the opening invocation, because that would occupy him away from reciting the Fatiha, which is more important than it. Ibn Mansur said: I said to Ahmad: Sufyan was asked, does a person seek refuge behind the Imam? He said: Only one who recites seeks refuge. Ahmad said: He spoke the truth. As for one for whom recitation is recommended—who is the follower in a silent prayer—he should perform the opening invocation and seek refuge. Ahmad explicitly stated this, saying: If he is one of those who recite behind the Imam, he should seek refuge, and if he is of those who do not recite, then no. Allah the Exalted said: {So when you recite the Qur'an, seek refuge in Allah from Satan the outcast} (48).
184- Issue; He said: (The recommended action is to recite during the Imam’s pauses, and in that in which he does not recite aloud.)
