It is established (2) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited in the Maghrib prayer {Al-Mursalat} [The Emissaries 77], and he recited in it {By the fig and the olive} [Al-Tin 95] (3). From Jubayr ibn Mut'im, that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) reciting in the Maghrib prayer {Al-Tur} [The Mount 52]. [This is] agreed upon (4). And he recited in it {Al-A'raf} [The Heights 7], narrated by Zayd ibn Thabit. Abu Dawud (5) recorded it. From a man from Juhaynah, that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) reciting in the dawn prayer {When the earth is shaken} [Al-Zalzalah 99] in both rak'ahs, and I do not know whether the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forgot, or if he recited that intentionally. Narrated (6) by Abu Dawud (7). From him (8), that he recited in the dawn prayer with the two surahs of seeking refuge [Al-Mu'awwidhatayn]. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would sometimes lengthen [the recitation] and other times shorten it, according to the circumstances.
