a trustee. It has come from him, peace and blessings of God be upon him, that he said: "Two qualities are suspended from the necks of the muʾadhdhins for the Muslims: their prayer and their fasting." Narrated by Ibn Mājah. And because the adhān is legislated for the purpose of announcing the time, if it were not permissible to follow the muʾadhdhin, the wisdom for which the adhān was legislated would not be achieved. People have always gathered in their mosques and congregational mosques at the times of prayer, and when they heard the adhān, they would stand for prayer and build upon the adhān of the muʾadhdhin without ijtihād regarding the time or witnessing what they know it by, without any objection, so it was an consensus.

118 - Issue; He said: (And prayer at the beginning of the time is more virtuous, except for the last ʿishāʾ, and in intense heat, the Ẓuhr.)

Its summary is that the times are of three types: a time of virtue, a time of permissibility, and a time of necessity. As for the time of permissibility and necessity, we have already mentioned them. As for the time of virtue, it is that which al-Khiraqī mentioned. Aḥmad said: The beginning of the time is more pleasing to me, except for two prayers: the ʿishāʾ prayer, and the Ẓuhr prayer, which is delayed until it is cool in the heat. Narrated by al-Athram. This is how the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, used to pray. Sayyār b. Salāma said: My father and I entered upon Abū Barza al-Aslamī, and my father asked him: How did the Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, pray the prescribed prayer? He said: He used to pray the hajjīr—which you call the first [prayer]—when the sun declines, and he would pray the ʿAṣr, then one of us would return to his dwelling at the furthest part of Medina while the sun was still bright. And I forgot what he said
