Recorded by Abu Dawud (22). The correct view is that it is not among the obligatory (aza'im) prostrations. This is the view of Alqama and al-Shafi'i, and it is narrated from Ibn Mas'ud and Ibn Abbas, due to what was narrated from Abu Sa'id, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited [Sad, and when he reached the prostration] (23) while he was on the pulpit, he descended and prostrated, and the people prostrated with him. When another day came, he recited it, and when he reached the prostration, the people prepared (24) themselves for the prostration. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "It is only the repentance of a Prophet, but I saw that you prepared yourselves for the prostration." So he descended, prostrated, and they prostrated. Recorded by Abu Dawud (25). From Ibn Abbas, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prostrated in Sad and said: "David prostrated it as a repentance, and we prostrate it as an act of thankfulness (shukr)." Recorded by al-Nasa'i (26). [And Abu Dawud narrated from] (27) Ibn Abbas, who said: Sad is not among the obligatory prostrations. The aforementioned hadith (28) regarding the other narration indicates that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did prostrate in it, so [his prostration for it was out of gratitude] (29), as he clarified in the hadith of Ibn Abbas.
204 - Issue; he said: (In Hajj there are two [prostrations] (1))
