Section: If he hears the prostration (7) [while he is not in a state of purity] (8), he is not obligated to perform ablution or tayammum. Al-Nakha'i said: He should perform tayammum and then prostrate. Another narration from him states: He should perform ablution and then prostrate. This is also the position of al-Thawri, Ishaq, and the People of Reason (Ahl al-Ra'y). Our evidence is that it relates to a specific cause, and if that passes, he does not prostrate, just as if he recited a prostration verse while in prayer and did not prostrate, he does not prostrate after it. [Once this is established, he does not prostrate even if he performs ablution, because as we have mentioned, its cause has passed, so he does not prostrate for it, nor does he perform tayammum for it while water is present; for Allah the Exalted conditioned tayammum on the absence of water or illness, and neither of these was found. If he is without water and performs tayammum, he may prostrate (9) if they have not yet prayed, because its cause has not moved away and it has not passed, contrary to the case if he performs ablution] (10).
206 - Issue; He said: (And he shall pronounce the takbir when he prostrates)
The essence of this is that when he prostrates for recitation, he is obligated to pronounce the takbir for the prostration and for rising from it, whether he is in prayer or otherwise. This is the position of Ibn Sirin, al-Hasan, Abu Qilabah, al-Nakha'i, Muslim ibn Yasar (1), Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami, al-Shafi'i, Ishaq (2), and the People of Reason. Malik said: [It is required] if he is in prayer. He differed (3) regarding the case if he is outside of prayer. Our evidence is what Ibn Umar narrated, saying: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, used to recite the Quran to us, and when he passed by a prostration verse, he would pronounce the takbir, prostrate, and we would prostrate with him. Abd al-Razzaq said: Al-Thawri admired this hadith. Abu Dawud said: He admired it because he pronounced the takbir. [It was narrated by Abu Dawud] (4).

فصل: وإذا سَمِعَ السَّجْدَةَ (٧) [وهو على غيرِ طهارةٍ] (٨)، لَم يَلْزَمْه الوُضوءُ ولا التَّيَمُّمُ. وقال النَّخَعِىُّ: يَتَيَمَّمُ، ويسجُدُ. وعنه: يَتَوَضَّأُ، ويسجُدُ. وبه قال الثَّوْرِىُّ، وَإسحاقُ، وأصْحابُ الرَّأْىِ. ولَنا، أنَّهَا تَتَعَلَّقُ بِسَبَبٍ، فإذا فاتَ لم يَسْجُدْ، كما لو قَرَأَ سجدَةً في الصلاةِ، فلم يَسْجُدْ، فإنَّه لا يسجدُ بعدَها. [إذا ثبت هذا فإنَّه لا يسجدُ وإنْ تَوَضَّأ؛ لما ذكرْناه مِن أنَّه فات سَبَبُها، فلا يسجدُ لها، ولا يتيمَّمُ لها مع وُجودِ الماءِ؛ لأنَّ اللَّه تعالى شرَط في التَّيَمُّمِ عَدَمَ الماءِ أو المرضَ، ولم يُوجَدْ واحدٌ منهما. وإن كان عادِمًا للماءِ فتيَمَّم، فله أنْ يسجُدَ (٩) إذا لم يُصَلُّوا، لأنَّه لم يبْعُد سببُها، ولم تفُتْ، بخلافِ ما إذا تَوضَّأ] (١٠).
٢٠٦ - مسألة؛ قال: (وَيُكَبِّرُ إذَا سَجَدَ)
وجُمْلَةُ ذلكَ، أنَّه إذا سَجَدَ للتِّلاوَةِ فَعَلَيْهِ التَّكْبِيرُ للسُّجودِ والرَّفْعِ منه، سَوَاءٌ كانَ في صلاةٍ أو في غَيْرِها. وبه قالَ ابْنُ سِيرِينَ والحسنُ، وأبو قِلَابَة، والنَّخَعِىُّ، ومُسْلِمُ بنُ يَسَارٍ (١)، وأبو عبدِ الرحمنِ السُّلَمِىُّ، وَالشافعىُّ، وإسحاقُ (٢) وَأصحابُ الرَّأْىِ. وقال مالكٌ: إذا كان في صلاةٍ. واخْتلَف (٣) عنه إذا كان في غيرِ صلاةٍ. ولَنا، ما رَوَى ابْنُ عمرَ، قال: كان رسولُ اللهِ -صلى اللَّه عليه وسلم- يقْرَأُ علينا القُرْآنَ، فإذا مَرَّ بالسَّجْدَةِ كَبَّرَ وَسجدَ وسَجَدْنَا معهُ. قالَ عبدُ الرَّزَّاقِ: كانَ الثورِىُّ يُعْجِبُهُ هذا الحديث. قال أبو داوُد: يُعْجِبُهُ لأنه كَبَّرَ.
