for he has a more resonant voice than you." So I stood with Bilal and began to dictate it to him, and he would call the Adhan with it. Umar ibn al-Khattab heard that while he was in his house, so he came out dragging his cloak, saying: "O Messenger of Allah, by the One who sent you with the truth, I have seen the like of what he saw." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "To Allah belongs all praise." Reported by al-Athram and Abu Dawud (42), and al-Tirmidhi mentioned the end of it with this chain of narration (43) and said: It is a hasan sahih (good and authentic) hadith. The Ummah has reached consensus that the Adhan is prescribed for the five daily prayers.
121 - Issue: Abu al-Qasim said: (Abu Abd Allah, may Allah have mercy on him, adopts the Adhan of Bilal, may Allah be pleased with him, which is: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar; I testify that there is no god but Allah, I testify that there is no god but Allah; I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; Hayya 'ala al-salah, [Hayya 'ala al-salah], Hayya 'ala al-falah, Hayya 'ala al-falah; Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar; la ilaha illa Allah.)
The entirety of this is that the choice of Ahmad, may Allah have mercy on him, for the Adhan is the Adhan of Bilal, may Allah be pleased with him, which is what al-Khiraqi described. It came in the report of Abd Allah ibn Zayd, consisting of fifteen phrases, with no tarji' (repetition) in it. This is the opinion of al-Thawri, the People of Opinion (Ashab al-Ra'y), and Ishaq. Malik, al-Shafi'i, and those who followed them from the people of the Hijaz said: The Sunnah Adhan is the Adhan of Abu Mahdhurah, which is similar to what we described, except that it is recommended to perform tarji', which is to recite the two testimonies twice while lowering one's voice, then repeat them while raising one's voice. However, Malik said: The takbir at the beginning is only twice. Thus, the Adhan according to him is seventeen phrases, and according to al-Shafi'i it is nineteen phrases. They argued using what Abu Mahdhurah reported, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) taught him the Adhan and dictated it to him, saying to him: Say: "I testify that there is no god but Allah, I testify
