all of it except the first half of Ramadan; this is due to that report. It is narrated from Ibn Umar that he does not perform Qunut except in the last half of Ramadan. It is also narrated from him that he does not perform Qunut in any prayer at all. The first narration (6) is the one chosen by the majority of the companions. Ahmad stated in the narration of al-Marwudhi: "I used to hold the view that it is only in the middle of the month of Ramadan, but then I performed Qunut; it is supplication and goodness." The basis for this is what is narrated from Ubayy, that the Messenger of God (peace and blessings of God be upon him) used to perform Witr and perform Qunut before the bowing (ruku') (7). From Ali (may God be pleased with him), it is narrated that the Messenger of God (peace and blessings of God be upon him) used to say at the end of his Witr: "O God, I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your anger, and I seek refuge in Your pardon from Your punishment, and I seek refuge in You from You. I cannot enumerate Your praise; You are as You have praised Yourself" (8). This was practiced continuously, and the action of Ubayy indicates that it was his considered opinion (9). The disagreement of the Companions regarding this is not to be denied. Furthermore, because it is Witr, Qunut is prescribed in it, just as it is in the last half, and because it is a dhikr (remembrance) prescribed (10) in Witr, it is thus prescribed (11) throughout the entire year, like all other adhkar.

Section: He performs Qunut after the bowing. Ahmad explicitly stated this. A similar view is narrated from Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, Umar, Uthman, Ali (12), Abu Qilabah, Abu al-Mutawakkil (13), and Ayyub
