al-Sakhtiyani. Malik and Abu Hanifah also said this. It is narrated from Ubayy, Ibn Mas'ud, Abu Musa, al-Bara', Ibn Abbas, Anas, Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz, 'Abidah, Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla, and Humayd al-Tawil; this is because the hadith of Ubayy states: "And he performs Qunut before the bowing." It is narrated from Ibn Mas'ud that the Prophet (peace and blessings of God be upon him) [performed Qunut before the bowing (16)]. Our evidence is what Abu Hurayrah and Anas narrated, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of God be upon him) (17) performed Qunut after the bowing. Recorded by Muslim (18). Al-Athram said: I heard Abu Abd Allah [Ahmad] being asked about this issue, and he said: "Perform Qunut after the bowing." He mentioned the hadith of al-Zuhri from Sa'id and Abu Salamah from Abu Hurayrah from the Prophet (peace and blessings of God be upon him), and from Anas from the Prophet (peace and blessings of God be upon him), and more than one who performed Qunut after the bowing. The hadith of Ibn Mas'ud is narrated by Aban ibn Abi Ayyash, who is considered 'matruk al-hadith' (his hadith is abandoned). The hadith of Ubayy has also been criticized, and it has been said that the mention of Qunut in it is not authentic. And God knows best.

Section: It is recommended to say in the Qunut of Witr what was narrated by al-Hasan ibn Ali (may God be pleased with them both), who said: The Messenger of God (peace and blessings of God be upon him) taught me words to say during Witr: "O God, guide me among those whom You have guided, and pardon me among those whom You have pardoned, and take me into Your care among those whom You have taken into Your care, and bless for me what You have given, and protect me from the evil of what You have decreed; for indeed You decree and none can decree against You, and indeed he is not abased whom You have befriended, nor is he honored whom You have opposed. Blessed are You, our Lord, and Exalted."
