from the tongue of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), reciting it every Friday on the pulpit when addressing the people (5). This is not obligatory, for if he were to deliver the sermon while standing on the ground, or on a hillock, or a cushion, or on his mount, or otherwise, it would be permissible; for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), before the pulpit was made, used to stand on the ground. End quote.
Section: It is recommended that the pulpit be to the right of the Qibla, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did exactly that (7).
280 - Issue; He said: (When he faces the people, he greets them, they respond to him, and he sits).
It is recommended for the Imam, when he exits, to greet the people. Then, when he ascends the pulpit and faces those present, he greets them and sits until the mu'adhdhins finish their adhan. Ibn al-Zubayr, when he ascended the pulpit, would offer greetings, and 'Umar bin 'Abd al-'Aziz also did this. Al-Awza'i and al-Shafi'i held this view. Malik and Abu Hanifah said: Greeting is not a Sunnah after facing [the people], because he has already offered the greeting at the time of his exit. Our evidence is what Jabir narrated, saying: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), when he ascended the pulpit, would offer greetings. Recorded by Ibn Majah (1). And from Ibn 'Umar, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), when he entered the mosque on Friday, would offer greetings to those sitting near the pulpit, and when he ascended the pulpit, he would turn to the people
