of it, like a traveler who catches a resident. Moreover, because he has caught a portion of the prayer, he is considered as having caught it, like Dhuhr. Our evidence is his saying (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "Whoever catches a rak'ah of the Jumu'ah has caught the prayer." The implication of this is that if he catches less than that, he has not caught it. Furthermore, this is the saying of those we named from the Companions and the Successors, and there is no dissenter among them in their era, so it constitutes consensus. Bishr ibn Mu'adh al-Zayyat also narrated, from al-Zuhri, from Abu Salamah (3), from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), that he said: "Whoever catches a rak'ah on the day of Jumu'ah, let him add another to it, and whoever catches less than that, he shall pray it as four" (4). Also, because he did not catch a rak'ah, the Jumu'ah is not valid for him, like the Imam if they disperse before he prostrates. As for the traveler, his catching [the prayer] is a catching of obligation, while this is a catching (5) that is an exoneration from the number (6), so they differ. Likewise, the traveler completes the prayer behind a resident, while the resident does not shorten the prayer behind a traveler. As for Dhuhr, congregational prayer is not one of its conditions, unlike our issue.

Section: As for his statement "with its two prostrations," it is possible that it is for emphasis, like the saying of Allah the Almighty: {nor a bird that flies with its two wings} (7). It is also possible that it is for the purpose of precaution against one who catches the bowing (ruku'), then misses the two prostrations, or one of them, until the Imam delivers the taslim, due to crowding, forgetfulness, sleep, or distraction. There is a difference in narration from Ahmad concerning one who enters the state of consecration (ihram) with the Imam, then becomes crowded and is unable to bow or prostrate until the Imam delivers the taslim. Al-Athram, al-Maymuni, and others narrated that he is considered to have caught the Jumu'ah and shall pray two rak'ahs. Al-Khallal chose this view. This is the opinion of al-Hasan, al-Awza'i, and the People of Opinion, because he had (8) entered the state of consecration with the Imam during the first rak'ah,
