according to the opinion of the majority of scholars. Al-Tirmidhi said: The practice among scholars from the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and those who came after them is based on this. It is also the opinion of al-Awza'i, al-Thawri, Malik, al-Shafi'i, Ibn al-Mundhir, and the scholars of reasoning (Ahl al-Ra'y). It has been said that this is a consensus (ijma'). Ibn 'Abd al-Barr said: The scholars of the Muslims, both past and present, have reached a consensus that the Friday Ghusl is not a mandatory duty (fard wajib). Another narration is attributed to Ahmad that it is obligatory, and this was reported from Abu Hurayrah and 'Amr ibn Sulaym. 'Ammar ibn Yasir once argued with a man, and 'Ammar said: 'In that case, he is worse than the one who does not perform Ghusl on Friday.' The basis for this is the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "The Friday Ghusl is obligatory for every pubescent person," and his saying (peace be upon him): "Whoever among you comes to the Friday prayer, let him perform Ghusl." Also, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), that he said: "It is a duty upon every Muslim to perform Ghusl once every seven days, washing his head and his body." Both [al-Bukhari and Muslim] agreed upon it. Our argument is what was narrated by Samurah ibn Jundub,
