he should perform the taslim with the second group, so as to achieve equality between them. Malik and Al-Shafi'i stated this as well, except for the differences we have mentioned. Abu Hanifah said: He should pray as Ibn Umar narrated, who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) performed the Prayer of Fear with one of the two groups for one rak'ah and two prostrations, while the other group faced the enemy. Then they turned away and stood in the place of their companions, facing the enemy, and the others came. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed one rak'ah for them, then performed the taslim. Then these [the first group] made up one rak'ah, and those [the second group] made up one rak'ah. Agreed upon (8). Abu Hanifah said: He prays with one of the two groups for one rak'ah, while the other faces the enemy. Then the group that prayed with him turns towards the face of the enemy while they are in their prayer. Then the other group comes and prays the second rak'ah with the Imam. Then the Imam performs the taslim, and the group returns to face the enemy while they are in the prayer. Then the first group comes to the place of their prayer and performs one rak'ah individually, and they do not recite during it because they are in the status of one following an Imam. Then they turn towards the face of the enemy. Then the other group comes to the place of prayer and performs [the second rak'ah] (9) individually, and they recite during it because they have parted from the Imam after he finished the prayer; thus, their ruling is the ruling of a masbuq (one who joined late) when he parts from his Imam. He said: This is better, because you have permitted the follower to part from his Imam before he finishes the prayer, which is the case for the first group, and for the second group to part from him in the actions, such that he remains sitting while they are standing, performing a rak'ah while they are under his leadership. Our argument is what
