in the first [rak'ah], and the second in the second [rak'ah], or if the second did not move forward to the place of the first, or if some of the row guarded and the rest prostrated, all of that is permissible; because the intended objective is achieved. However, the most excellent course is to do exactly as the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) did. Among the conditions of this prayer is that the enemy must be in the direction of the Qibla, because it is not possible to guard them during the prayer except in this manner, and that they should be situated such that some of them are not hidden from others, and no ambush is feared against them.

Section: The fourth method is that he prays a separate prayer with each group and performs the salutation (taslim) with them, as narrated by Abu Bakrah: He said, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) performed the Dhuhr prayer during a state of fear. Some of them lined up behind him, while others stood facing the enemy. He prayed two rak'ahs, then gave the salutation. Those who had prayed then moved away and stood in the position of their companions. Then the others came and prayed behind him, and he prayed two rak'ahs with them, then gave the salutation. Thus, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) had four [rak'ahs], and his companions had two. Recorded by Abu Dawud and Al-Athram. This is an excellent method, with little difficulty, and in it there is no need to separate from one's Imam nor to define the modality of the prayer. This is the school of Al-Hasan, and there is nothing more to it than the fact that the Imam in the second [prayer] is performing a supererogatory prayer while leading those who are performing an obligatory one.

Section: The fifth method is that he prays two rak'ahs with the first group and does not give the salutation. Then the group gives the salutation and departs without making up any part [of the prayer]. Then the other group arrives, and he prays two rak'ahs with them and gives the salutation with them, and they do not make up any part [of the prayer]. This is similar to the method before it, except that he does not give the salutation in the first two rak'ahs, based on what Jabir narrated: He said, we arrived with the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) until we reached Dhat al-Riqa'. He mentioned the hadith and said: The call to prayer was made, so he prayed two rak'ahs with one group, then they moved back, and he prayed two rak'ahs with the other group. He said: And for the Messenger of Allah
