Then we washed it, then we made it into three plaits. We only washed it upon the command of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and his instruction. In the hadith of Umm Sulaym, from the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace): "Braid her hair into three plaits; a forelock and two sides, and do not make her resemble men." (5). As for combing, Ahmad disliked it and said: 'Aisha said: "Why are you combing (6) your deceased?" He said: meaning do not comb her head with a comb. And because that cuts her hair and pulls it out. It was narrated from Umm 'Atiyya that she said: "We combed her into three plaits." Agreed upon. Ahmad said: "They only braided it," and he disapproved of the comb. It is as if he interpreted her statement "we combed her" to mean "we braided her," for the reason we have mentioned. And Allah knows best.
352 - Issue: He said: "(Walking with the funeral procession is to be done with haste.)"
There is no disagreement among the Imams, may Allah have mercy upon them, regarding the recommendation of hastening with the funeral procession. The text mentions this, and it is the statement of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace): "Hasten with the funeral procession; for if it was righteous, it is a good that you are presenting it to, and if it was otherwise, it is an evil that you are casting off your necks." Agreed upon (1). From Abu Hurayra, he said: When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) would follow a funeral procession, he would say: "Speed up (2) with it, and do not tread in the manner of the Jews with their funeral processions." ثم غَسَلْنَهُ، ثم جَعَلْنَهُ ثلاثةَ قُرُونٍ. وإنَّما غَسَلْنَهُ بأمْرِ رسولِ اللَّه -صلى اللَّه عليه وسلم- وَتَعْلِيمِه. وفى حَدِيثِ أُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ، عن النَّبِيِّ -صلى اللَّه عليه وسلم-: "واضْفُرْنَ شَعْرَهَا ثَلَاثَةَ قُرُونٍ؛ قُصَّةً، وقَرْنَيْنِ، ولا تُشَبِّهْنَها بالرِّجَالِ" (٥). فأمَّا التَّسْرِيحُ فكَرِهَهُ أحمدُ، وقال: قالت عائشةُ: عَلَامَ تَنُصُّونَ (٦) مَيِّتَكُمْ؟ قال: يعني لا تُسَرِّحُوا رَأْسَه بالمُشْطِ. ولأنَّ ذلك يَقْطَعُ شَعْرَهُ ويَنْتِفُهُ. وقد رُوِىَ عن أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ، قالت: مَشَطْنَاهَا ثَلَاثَةَ قُرُونٍ. مُتَّفَقٌ عليه. قال أحمدُ: إنَّما ضَفَرْنَ. وأَنْكَرَ المَشْطَ. فكأنَّه تَأَوَّلَ قَوْلَها: مَشَطْنَاهَا. على أنَّها أرادَتْ ضَفَرْنَاها؛ لما ذَكَرْنَاهُ. واللهُ أعلمُ.
٣٥٢ - مسألة؛ قال: (والمَشْىُ بالجِنَازَةِ الإِسْرَاعُ)
لا خِلافَ بين الأئِمَّةِ، رَحِمَهُمُ اللهُ، في اسْتِحْبابِ الإِسْراعِ بالجِنازَةِ، وبه وَرَدَ النَّصُّ، وهو قولُ النَّبِيِّ -صلى اللَّه عليه وسلم-: "أَسْرِعُوا بالجِنَازَةِ، فَإنْ تَكُنْ صَالِحَةً فَخَيْرٌ تُقَدِّمُونَهَا إلَيْهِ، وإنْ كَانَتْ غَيْرَ صَالِحَةٍ فَشَرٌّ تَضَعُونَهُ عَنْ رِقَابِكُمْ". مُتَّفَقٌ عليه (١). وعن أبي هُرَيْرَةَ، قال: كان رسولُ اللهِ -صلى اللَّه عليه وسلم- إذا تَبِعَ الجِنازَةَ، قال: "انْبَسِطُوا (٢) بِها، وَلَا تَدِبُّوا دَبِيبَ الْيَهُودِ بِجَنَائِزِهَا". رَوَاهُ أحمدُ، في
