without anything else along with it. Ahmad said the same and narrated it from Ibrahim, who said: He should hasten to perform the takbir consecutively. Even if he does not lift his hands, he should perform what he missed. If he catches the imam during the supplication for the deceased, he should follow him in it. When the imam performs the taslim, he should perform the takbir, recite al-Fatiha, [then perform the takbir], pray for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and then perform the takbir and the taslim. Al-Shafi'i said: Whenever the one who missed part of the prayer (masbuq) enters the prayer, he should begin with al-Fatiha, then perform the [remainder of the] prayer in the second [takbir]. The reasoning for the first view is that the masbuq in other prayers recites al-Fatiha and a surah during what he makes up, according to the format of what he missed; therefore, it is appropriate that he should perform the recitation here according to the format of what he missed. And Allah knows best.
Section: If he catches the imam between two takbirs, there is a narration from Ahmad that he should wait for the imam until he performs the takbir along with him. This is the view of Abu Hanifah, al-Thawri, and Ishaq, because the takbirs are like rak'ahs; thus, if he were to miss a rak'ah, he would not busy himself with making it up, and likewise if he misses a takbir. The second [view] is that he should perform the takbir and not wait. This is the view of al-Shafi'i, because in other prayers, whenever he catches the imam, he performs the takbir with him and does not wait, and this is not considered being occupied with making up what he missed; rather, he is praying with the imam what he has caught, so it suffices him, similar to the one who does so following the imam's takbir, or he may delay slightly after that. There are two narrations from Malik corresponding to these two. Ibn al-Mundhir said: Ahmad was lenient regarding both views. Whenever he catches the imam in the first takbir and performs the takbir and begins the recitation, and then the imam performs the takbir before he completes it, he should perform the takbir and follow him, and he should cut off the recitation, just like the masbuq in other prayers if the imam bows before the completion of the recitation.
365- Issue: He said: "And he is entered into his grave from the side of his feet if it is easier for them."
The pronoun in his statement "his feet" refers to the grave, meaning from the direction of the place of the feet. This is because it is recommended that the head of the deceased be placed at the foot of the grave, and then he is eased/slid into the grave.
(6) Dropped from A. (7) In M there is an addition: "He said."
