except with good; for the angels say 'Amin' to what you say" (54). He should anticipate the reward of Allah the Exalted and praise Him, for Abu Musa narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When a servant's child dies, Allah the Exalted says to His angels: 'Have you taken the child of My servant?' They say: 'Yes.' He says: 'Have you taken the fruit of his heart?' They say: 'Yes.' He says: 'What did My servant say?' They say: 'He praised You and said, "Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return."' He says: 'Build for My servant a house in Paradise and name it the House of Praise'" (55). Al-Tirmidhi said: This is a hasan gharib (good and rare) hadith.
387 - Issue: He said: (There is no harm in preparing food for the family of the deceased and sending it to them, but they themselves should not prepare food to feed people).
The general import is that it is recommended to prepare food for the family of the deceased and send it to them, as an aid to them and a solace for their hearts, for they might be too preoccupied with their calamity and with those who visit them to prepare food for themselves. Abu Dawud recorded (1) in his "Sunan," with his chain of narration from Abdullah ibn Ja'far, who said: When the news of the death of Ja'far came, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Prepare food for the family of Ja'far, for a matter has come to them that occupies them" (2). It was narrated from Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr that he said: This tradition remained among us until it was abandoned by those who abandoned it.
