so he should pay dates (6) or their price? He said: If he wishes, he may pay dates, and if he wishes, he may pay from the price. This is evidence for the permissibility of paying the monetary values. Its justification is the statement of Mu'adh to the people of Yemen: "Bring me a khamis (7) or a labis (8) [garment] which I will take from you, for it is easier for you and more beneficial for the Emigrants in Medina (9)." Sa'id said: Sufyan narrated to us from 'Amr, and from Tawus, who said: When Mu'adh arrived in Yemen, he said: "Bring me trade goods (clothing) which I will take from you in place of corn and barley, for it is easier for you and better for the Emigrants in Medina." He said: And Jarir narrated to us, from [Layth, from] (10) 'Ata', who said: Umar ibn al-Khattab used to take trade goods in charity in place of dirhams (11). Furthermore, the intent is the removal of need, and this does not differ after the equivalence of financial value is established, despite the difference in the forms of wealth. Our evidence is the statement of Ibn Umar: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prescribed Sadaqat al-Fitr as a sa' of dates, and a sa' of barley (12)." So if he deviates from that, he has abandoned what was prescribed. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "On forty sheep, there is a sheep (13)," and "On two hundred dirhams, there are five dirhams (14)." This was delivered as an explanation for the general statement of the Almighty: "And establish prayer and give zakah." Thus, the mentioned sheep is the zakah that was ordered, and an order implies obligation. Furthermore, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prescribed charity in this manner and commanded that it be fulfilled. In the document of Abu Bakr (15) that he wrote regarding charity, he said: "This is the charity that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prescribed and ordered to be fulfilled."
473 - Issue: He said: (And he pays it when he goes out to the prayer ground.) It is recommended to pay Sadaqat al-Fitr on the day of Fitr before the prayer, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) commanded that it be fulfilled before the people go out to the prayer. This is in the hadith of Ibn Umar (1), and in the hadith of...
