He said: "By the One who honored you, I will not perform any voluntary acts, nor will I decrease anything of what Allah has obligated upon me." The Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) then said: "He has succeeded, if he is truthful," or "He has entered Paradise, if he is truthful." Both are agreed upon (6). The Muslims have reached a consensus on the obligation of fasting the month of Ramadan.
Section: It is narrated from the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) that he said: "When Ramadan comes, the gates of Paradise are opened." It is agreed upon (7). It is also narrated from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), that he said: "Do not say 'Ramadan has come,' for Ramadan is one of the names of Allah the Almighty" (8). It is necessary to interpret this to mean that one should not say it without it being coupled with something that indicates the intention of the month, so as not to contradict the authentic Hadiths. Furthermore, it is recommended to say "the month of Ramadan," as Allah the Almighty said: "The month of Ramadan in which the Quran was revealed" (9). There is a difference of opinion regarding the meaning for which Ramadan was so named. Anas narrated from the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) that he said: "Ramadan was only named so because it burns (yarmadu) sins" (10). It is possible that he meant by that (11) the legislation of its fasting, and not anything else, so that its name may correspond to its meaning. It is also said that it is a name established without a specific meaning, like the rest of the months, and other opinions have been stated.
