The scholars. And because buffaloes are of the types of cattle, just as the Baktrian camels are of the types of camels. Thus, if buffaloes and another type of cattle, or Baktrian and Arabian camels, or goats and sheep are found together in the wealth, the nisab (minimum threshold) of one is completed by the other, and the mandatory payment is taken from one of them according to the proportion of the two types of wealth, as we shall mention, if Allah Almighty wills.
Section: There is a difference of opinion regarding wild cattle; it has been narrated that Zakat is required on them. Abu Bakr chose this view because the name "cattle" encompasses them, so they enter into the general meaning of the report. Another view is that there is no Zakat on them, which is the more correct view and the position of the majority of scholars; because the name "cattle" when used absolutely does not refer to them, nor is it understood from it, as they are not called "cattle" without the addition, for it is said: "wild cattle" (baqar al-wahsh). Also, there is no existence of a nisab of them characterized by the quality of grazing (sa'wum) for a full year. Furthermore, they are animals whose type does not suffice in the sacrifice (udhiyya) or the sacrificial offering (hady), so Zakat is not required on them, like gazelles. Also, they are not from the livestock (bahimat al-an'am), so Zakat is not required on them, like other wild animals. The secret of this is that Zakat only became obligatory on livestock rather than others due to the abundance of growth in them from their milk and their offspring, and the abundance of benefit from them due to their quantity and the lightness of the burden of maintaining them. This meaning is exclusive (1) to them, so Zakat is exclusive to them rather than others. Zakat is not required on gazelles according to a single narration because the name "sheep" does not apply to them.
Section: Our companions said: Zakat is required on the offspring produced between wild and domestic animals, regardless of whether the wild parent is the sire or the dam. Malik and Abu Hanifa said: If the dams are domestic, Zakat is required on them; otherwise, it is not, because the offspring of livestock follows its mother. Al-Shafi'i said: There is no Zakat on them, because they are produced from a wild animal, resembling that which is produced from two wild animals. Our companions argued that they are produced between that on which Zakat is required and that on which it is not, so Zakat is required on them, like the animal produced between a grazing animal and a fodder-fed animal. Some of them claimed that the sheep of Mecca are produced
