Section: It is recommended to provide food for a fasting person to break their fast, due to what Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhani narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), that he said: "Whoever provides food for a fasting person to break their fast shall have the same reward as them, without any reduction in the fasting person's reward." Al-Tirmidhi said (26): This is a sound (hasan) and authentic (sahih) hadith.

Section: Ibn 'Abbas narrated that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would break his fast, he would say: "O Allah, for You we have fasted, and upon Your provision we have broken our fast, so accept it from us; indeed, You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing." Ibn 'Umar narrated that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would break his fast, he would say: "The thirst has gone, the veins are moistened, and the reward is confirmed, if Allah wills." Its chain of narration is sound (hasan), and both were mentioned by al-Daraqutni (27).

522 - Issue: He said: "And whoever fasts the month of Ramadan, and follows it with six days from Shawwal, even if they are separated, it is as if he has fasted the entire year."

The summary of this is that fasting six days of Shawwal is recommended according to many of the people of knowledge. This has been narrated from Ka'b al-Ahbar, al-Sha'bi, and Maymun ibn Mihran. Al-Shafi'i also held this view. Malik disliked it and said: "I have not seen anyone of the jurists fasting them, and it has not reached me from any of the predecessors (salaf). The people of knowledge dislike this, fearing it might be considered an innovation (bid'ah) or that things might be added to Ramadan that are not part of it." Our evidence is what Abu Ayyub narrated, saying: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever fasts Ramadan, and follows it with six days from Shawwal, it is as if he has fasted the entire year." Narrated by Abu
