the lamp holders to extinguish them, and they extinguished them. So I performed the tawaf with her under a covering or a veil. Whenever she finished a circuit (4), she would touch the Black Corner and seek refuge with Allah between the Corner and the door, until when she had finished three circuits, she went to the back of the Zamzam fountain, on the side facing the people, and prayed six rak‘ahs. Every time she prayed two rak‘ahs, she would turn towards the women and speak to them, separating her prayer with that, until she finished.
595 - Issue: He said: "The person in ihram shall not marry, nor shall they arrange a marriage. If one does so, the marriage is void."
His saying: "He shall not marry" means he shall not accept marriage for himself, and "nor shall they arrange a marriage" means he shall not be a guardian in a marriage nor an agent in it. It is also not permissible to arrange the marriage of a woman who is in ihram. This was narrated from ‘Umar, his son, and Zayd ibn Thabit, may Allah be pleased with them. This is also the view of Sa‘id ibn al-Musayyib, Sulayman ibn Yasar, al-Zuhri, al-Awza‘i, Malik, and al-Shafi‘i. Ibn ‘Abbas permitted all of that (1), and this is the opinion of Abu Hanifa; based on what Ibn ‘Abbas narrated, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) married Maymunah while he was in a state of ihram. [Agreed upon] (2). And because it is a contract through which one gains the right of intimacy, therefore ihram does not prohibit it, just like the purchasing of slave women. Our evidence is what Aban ibn ‘Uthman narrated, from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Affan, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The person in ihram shall not marry, nor shall they arrange a marriage, nor shall they propose."
(4) It is said: 'tafa bi al-bayt sab‘an' (he circumambulated the House seven times), and 'usbu‘an' and 'subu‘an'. (1) Omitted from M. (2) In the original: "Agreed upon".
