if he intends to return and reside in Makkah, he shall complete his prayers in Mina and Arafah.

635 - Issue: He said: "Then he proceeds to the standing place (mawquf) of Arafah at the mountain; all of Arafah is a standing place, but he should avoid the bottom of Uranah, for standing there does not suffice him."

Meaning, once he has prayed the two prayers, he proceeds to the standing place at Arafah. It is recommended to perform ghusl (full ablution) for the standing; Ibn Mas'ud used to do it, and it was narrated from Ali as well. This is the opinion of al-Shafi'i, Ishaq, Abu Thawr, and Ibn al-Mundhir, because it is a gathering place (majma') for the people, so ghusl is recommended for it, just as it is for the Eid and Friday prayers. All of Arafah is a standing place, for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "I have stood here, and all of Arafah is a standing place." Narrated by Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah (2). It is narrated from Yazid ibn Shayban that he said: Ibn Mirba' al-Ansari came to us while we were at Arafah in a place that Amr (3) keeps away from the Imam, and he said: "I am the messenger of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to you, saying: 'Remain upon your rites (mashair), for you are upon a legacy from the legacy of your father Ibrahim'" (4). The boundary of Arafah is from the mountain overlooking
