as a pledge that is closed, as a person who has wronged himself, and as one knowledgeable of his crime. It is the supplication of one whose faults have multiplied, whose sins have increased, whose days have passed, whose need has intensified, and whose time has been cut off; the supplication of one who has no forgiver for his sin but You, no one to rectify his fault but You, no one to strengthen his weakness but You, no one to mend his brokenness but You, no one to grant the hope of goodness but You, and no one to free him from the heat of Your Fire but You. O Allah, I have reached this morning in a Sacred Land, [on a sacred day] (16), in a sacred month, standing among the best of mankind. I ask You not to make me the most wretched of Your sinning creation in Your sight (17), nor the most disappointed of those who hope in You, nor the most deprived of those who desire Your mercy and visit Your House, nor the greatest loser among those who depart from Your lands. O Allah, there has been from (18) my shortcomings what You have known, from my destruction of my own soul what You have understood, and from my injustices what You have enumerated. How many hardships have You saved me from! How many sorrows have You cleared! [How many concerns] (19) have You relieved! How many prayers have You answered! How many severities have You removed! And how many times of ease (20) have You granted! From You come blessings and the excellence of decree, and from me come negligence, excessive persistence, and failure in fulfilling my gratitude. To You belong the blessings, O Praised One, so do not let my shortcomings, which You know, nor my sins and faults, which You are aware of, prevent You, O Praised One, from granting me my request and my need, to the extent that my asking has reached. O Allah, I call upon You with longing, I turn my face toward You with supplication, and I lay my cheek [in the dust] as a sinner in fear, so accept my supplication, have mercy on my weakness, rectify the corruption of my affairs, cut off my anxiety and need from this world, and make my desire for what is with You.
