al-Shafi'i, and the People of Opinion (Ahl al-Ra'y). Malik was of the view that departure should be before the light of dawn (isfar). As for our evidence, it is what Jabir narrated, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) remained standing until the light of dawn was very clear, then he departed before the sun rose (3). From Nafi', it is reported that Ibn al-Zubayr delayed the timing until the sun was about to rise, so Ibn Umar said to him (4): I see that he intends to do as the people of the Age of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah) used to do. He then departed, and the people departed with him. Ibn Mas'ud used to depart like the departure of the people who have attained the light of dawn after the morning prayer. Ibn Umar departed (5) when it was bright and the camels could see the location of their tracks. It is recommended that one proceeds with calmness (sakinah), as we mentioned regarding his movement from Arafah. Ibn Abbas said: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) caused al-Fadl ibn Abbas to ride behind him and said: "O people, indeed righteousness is not in the haste of horses and camels, so you must observe calmness" (6). I did not see it raising its hands until he reached Mina.
643 - Issue: He said: (Then when he reaches Muhassir, he quickens his pace, and he does not stop until he reaches Mina, and he is, while doing so, reciting the Talbiyah).
It is recommended to quicken the pace in the Valley of Muhassir, which is the area between Jam' and Mina. If he is on foot, he should quicken his pace, and if he is riding, he should urge his mount to move faster; this is because Jabir said, in his description of the Hajj of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): When he reached the bottom of Muhassir, he urged it a little (1). It is narrated that Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), when he came to Muhassir, quickened his pace and said: Towards You, its girth-strap leans in restlessness, Opposing the religion of the Christians is its religion, With its fetus lying crosswise in its belly.

Al-Wadin: A girth-strap woven together by layering, used to secure the saddle onto the camel.
