Section: The Day of the Greatest Pilgrimage (Yawm al-Hajj al-Akbar) is the Day of Sacrifice. For the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said in his sermon on the Day of Sacrifice: "This is the Day of the Greatest Pilgrimage." Recorded by al-Bukhari (28). It was named as such due to the abundance of Hajj rituals on it, including: standing at the Mash'ar (al-Muzdalifah), departing from it to Mina, stoning, sacrificing, shaving, the circumambulation of the Ifadah, and returning to Mina to spend the night there. No other day contains the like of this, and it is, along with that, a day of 'Eid and a day in which one exits the state of Ihram for Hajj.
Section: On the Day of Sacrifice, there are four things: stoning, then sacrifice, then shaving, then circumambulation. The Sunnah is to perform them in this order, for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arranged them, and Jabir described it as such in the Hajj of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) (29). Anas narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stoned, then sacrificed, then shaved. Recorded by Abu Dawud (30). If one deviates from their order, whether out of forgetfulness or ignorance of the Sunnah regarding them, then there is nothing upon him, according to the opinion of many of the people of knowledge, among them: al-Hasan, Tawus, Mujahid, Sa'id ibn Jubayr, 'Ata', al-Shafi'i, Ishaq, Abu Thawr, Dawud, and Muhammad ibn Jarir al-Tabari. Abu Hanifah said: If he performs the shaving before the stoning or before the sacrifice, then he owes a blood sacrifice (dam); and if he is a Qarin (performing Hajj and 'Umrah together), he owes two blood sacrifices. Zufar said: He owes three blood sacrifices because the first state of partial deconsecration (al-tahallul al-awwal) was not achieved, so the blood sacrifice became binding upon him, just as if he had shaved before the Day of Sacrifice. Our evidence is what 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr (31) narrated, saying: A man said: "O Messenger of Allah, I shaved before I sacrificed." He said: "Sacrifice, and there is no harm." Another said: "I sacrificed before I stoned?" He said: "Stone, and there is no...
