with seven pebbles. He descends into the valley, faces the Qiblah, and does not stand at it. Al-Shafi'i held this view. We know of no disagreement in everything we have mentioned, except that Malik said: It is not a place for raising the hands. We have already mentioned the disagreement regarding this at the sight of the House (4). Al-Athram said: I heard Abu Abd Allah being asked: Does the man stand at the two Jamarat when he has thrown? He said: Yes, by my life, firmly, and he also prolongs the standing. It was asked: So where should he turn during his standing? He said: Toward the Qiblah, and he throws at it in the bottom of the valley. The root for this is what Aisha narrated, she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) departed on his final day when he had prayed the Dhuhr prayer, then he returned to Mina, and stayed there for the nights of the days of Tashriq. He would throw at the Jamrah when the sun passed the meridian, with seven pebbles for each Jamrah, saying takbir with (5) each pebble, and he would stand at the first and the second, prolonging the standing and supplicating, then he would throw at the third and not stand at it. Narrated by Abu Dawud (6). From Ibn Umar, that he used to throw at the Jamrah with seven pebbles, saying takbir after each pebble, then he would advance, face the Qiblah, and stand for a long time, raising his hands. Then he would throw at the middle one, then he would take to the left, face the Qiblah, and stand for a long time, [then he would raise his hands and stand for a long time, then he would throw at the Jamrat al-'Aqabah from the bottom of the valley, and he would not stand at it] (7). Then he would leave and say: Thus I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) do. Narrated by al-Bukhari (8). Abu Dawud narrated that Ibn Umar used to supplicate with the supplication he made at 'Arafat, and would add: And rectify or complete (9) for us our rituals. Ibn al-Mundhir said:
