dispensations. If it is not possible for her to remain, and she proceeds, or if she proceeds without an excuse, then a blood sacrifice (dam) is incumbent upon her. If she separates from the city walls, returning is not obligatory, [because she has passed beyond the status of a resident. If it is said: Why is returning not obligatory] (7) if she is nearby, similar to one who leaves without an excuse? We say: In that case, he left behind an obligation, so it is not waived by his departure until he reaches (8) the distance of shortening prayers (masafat al-qasr), because that constitutes the initiation of a long journey other than the first one. Whereas here, it was not an obligation, and its obligation does not become fixed initially except for one who was a resident.

Section: It is recommended that the one performing the farewell stop at the Multazam, which is the area between the [Black] Corner and the Door. He should embrace it, press his chest and face against it, and supplicate to Allah, the Almighty and Majestic. This is because Abu Dawud (9) narrated from Amr ibn Shu'ayb, from his father, [from his grandfather] (10), who said: I performed the circumambulation (tawaf) with Abdullah, and when he came to the rear of the Kaaba, I said: Will you not seek refuge? He said: We seek refuge in Allah from the Fire. Then he walked on until he touched the [Black] Stone, then he stood between the Corner and the Door, and he placed his chest, face, forearms, and palms like this—and he spread them out (11)—and said: Thus I saw the Messenger of Allah [may Allah bless him and grant him peace] do it. And from Abd al-Rahman ibn Safwan, he said: When the Messenger of Allah [may Allah bless him and grant him peace] conquered Mecca, I went out and saw the Messenger of Allah [may Allah bless him and grant him peace] had exited the Kaaba, he and his companions, having touched the Corner from the door to the Hatim, and they placed their cheeks upon the House, and the Messenger of Allah [may Allah bless him and grant him peace] was] (12) in the midst of them. Narrated by Abu Dawud (13). Mansur said: I asked Mujahid: If I want to perform the farewell, what should I do? He said: You perform the circumambulation of the House seven times, pray two rak'ahs behind
