dispensations. If it is not possible for her to remain, and she proceeds, or if she proceeds without an excuse, then a blood sacrifice (dam) is incumbent upon her. If she separates from the city walls, returning is not obligatory, [because she has passed beyond the status of a resident. If it is said: Why is returning not obligatory] (7) if she is nearby, similar to one who leaves without an excuse? We say: In that case, he left behind an obligation, so it is not waived by his departure until he reaches (8) the distance of shortening prayers (masafat al-qasr), because that constitutes the initiation of a long journey other than the first one. Whereas here, it was not an obligation, and its obligation does not become fixed initially except for one who was a resident.
Section: It is recommended that the one performing the farewell stop at the Multazam, which is the area between the [Black] Corner and the Door. He should embrace it, press his chest and face against it, and supplicate to Allah, the Almighty and Majestic.
