until I had performed Hajj.' He said: 'Go with her, O 'Abd al-Rahman, and let her perform 'Umrah from al-Tan'im.' Tawus narrated from 'Aishah that she said: 'I declared the intention for 'Umrah, then I arrived and did not perform circumambulation until I menstruated. I performed all the rites, and I had declared the intention for Hajj.' The Prophet (may God bless him and grant him peace) said to her on the day of departure: 'Your circumambulation for your Hajj and your 'Umrah suffices you.' She refused, so he sent 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr with her, and he enabled her to perform 'Umrah from al-Tan'im. Both [narrations] were recorded by Muslim. They both indicate everything we have mentioned. Furthermore, inserting Hajj into 'Umrah is permissible by consensus without the fear of [it] expiring [the time for Hajj], so it is even more so when there is fear of it. Ibn al-Mundhir said: 'Every scholar we remember agrees that one who has declared the intention for 'Umrah may insert Hajj into it, provided they have not yet begun the circumambulation of the House.' The Prophet (may God bless him and grant him peace) commanded those who had sacrificial animals with them during the Farewell Pilgrimage to declare the intention for Hajj alongside 'Umrah, and while it is possible to perform Hajj while maintaining 'Umrah, it is not permissible to abandon the latter, according to the saying of God Almighty: {And complete the Hajj and 'Umrah for God}. Moreover, since she is capable of completing her 'Umrah without harm, it is not permissible to abandon it, just as it is for one who is not menstruating. As for the hadith of 'Urwah, his statement: 'Unbind your hair, comb it, and leave the 'Umrah,' is uniquely narrated by 'Urwah, who contradicted all others who narrated from 'Aishah when she menstruated. This has been narrated by Tawus, al-Qasim, al-Aswad, and 'Amrah [from 'Aishah], and they did not mention that.
