In a wording by Muslim: "I perfumed him with the best of perfume." And she said: "With perfume containing musk." In a wording by al-Nasa'i: "It is as if I am looking at the sheen of the musk perfume in the parting of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)." Their hadith, in some of its wordings, states: "He was wearing a jubbah that had traces of khaluq (perfume) on it," recorded by Muslim. In some versions: "He was smeared with khaluq." In others: "On him was a smudge of saffron." These wordings indicate that the man's perfume was saffron, which is forbidden for men outside of ihram, and therefore even more so during it. Al-Bukhari has reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade a man from using saffron. Furthermore, their hadith dates to the year eight, while our hadith dates to the year ten. Ibn Jurayj said: "The case of the owner of the jubbah was before the Farewell Hajj." Ibn 'Abd al-Barr said: "There is no disagreement among the group of scholars of history and reports that the story of the owner of the jubbah occurred in the year of Hunayn, at al-Ji'ranah in the year eight, and the hadith of 'Aishah was during the Farewell Hajj in the year ten. Therefore, if a contradiction is presumed, our hadith is abrogating to theirs." If it is said: "Muhammad ibn al-Muntasir narrated that he asked Ibn 'Umar about perfume when entering ihram, and he said: 'For me to be smeared with tar'
