and al-Shafi'i. Some of them argued that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, bought food from a Jew (56), and he died while his armor was pledged with him (57). He also accepted the invitation of a Jew and ate from his food (58). Allah the Almighty has informed us that they are consumers of illicit gain (suht). It was narrated from 'Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said: "There is no harm in the grants of the Sultan, for what he gives you from the halal is more than what he gives you from the haram." He also said: "Do not ask the Sultan for anything, but if he gives, then take, for what is in the public treasury from the halal is more than what is in it from the haram."

Section (59): Ahmad, may Allah have mercy on him, said regarding one who possesses three dirhams, one of which is haram: "He should give the three as charity." And if he possesses two hundred dirhams, ten of which are haram, he should give the ten as charity; because this is a large amount, while that is small. He was told: Sufyan said, "What is less than ten, he should give as charity, and what is more, he should dispose of it." He replied: "Yes, he should not be harmed by it." The judge said: This is not by way of a strict determination, but rather by way of choice, because the more the halal increases, the more difficult it becomes to avoid taking
