Section: If he says, "He has ninety-nine dirhams against me," then the entirety is dirhams. I am not aware of any disagreement regarding this. If he says, "A hundred and fifty dirhams," it is the same. Some of our companions deduced a view that it does not function as an interpretation except for what immediately precedes it, which is the view of some followers of al-Shafi'i. The same applies if he says, "A thousand and three dirhams," or "Fifty dirhams and a thousand dirhams," or "A thousand and one hundred dirhams," or "A hundred and a thousand dirhams." The correct view is what we have mentioned; for the interpreted dirham acts as an interpretation for everything preceding it of ambiguous phrases and the genus of the number. Allah the Almighty said, informing us of one of the two litigants: "Indeed, this, my brother, has ninety-nine ewes" (27). In the Hadith, it is stated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passed away when he was sixty-three years old, Abu Bakr passed away when he was sixty-three years old, and Umar passed away when he was sixty-three years old (28). Antara said (29):
Therein are forty-two milch camels Black as the wing of the raven, the dusky
This is because the dirham was mentioned as an interpretation, and this is why no addition to the mentioned number becomes obligatory because of it. Thus, it was an interpretation for everything before it, because those require an interpretation, and it is qualified to interpret them, so it is obligatory to construe it as such. This meaning is present in his statement: "A thousand and three dirhams" and all the other mentioned scenarios. Thus, according to the view of those who do not hold that the ambiguous is of the same genus as the interpreted, if he said, "I sold you this..."

فصل: وإن قال: له عَلَىَّ تِسْعَةٌ وتِسْعُونَ دِرْهَمًا. فالجَمِيعُ دَرَاهِمُ. لا أعْلَمُ فيه خِلَافًا. وإن قال: مائةٌ وخَمْسُونَ دِرْهَمًا. فكذلك. وخَرَّجَ بعضُ أصْحَابِنَا وَجْهًا أنَّه لا يكونُ تَفْسِيرًا إلَّا لما يَلِيه، وهو قولُ بعضِ أصْحَابِ الشّافِعِىِّ. وكذلك إن قال: أَلْفٌ وثَلَاثَةُ دَرَاهِمَ، أو خَمْسُونَ دِرْهَمًا (٢٤) وأَلْفُ دِرْهَمٍ، أو أَلْفٌ ومائةُ دِرْهَمٍ، أو مائةٌ وأَلْفُ دِرْهَمٍ. والصَّحِيحُ ما ذَكَرْنا؛ فإنَّ الدِّرْهَمَ المُفَسّرَ يكون تَفْسِيرًا (٢٥) لِجَمِيعِ ما قَبْلَه من الجُمَلِ (٢٦) المُبْهَمَةِ وجِنْسِ العَدَدِ، قال اللهُ تعالى مُخْبِرًا عن أحَدِ الخَصْمَيْنِ أنَّه قال: {إِنَّ هَذَا أَخِي لَهُ تِسْعٌ وَتِسْعُونَ نَعْجَةً} (٢٧). وفى الحَدِيثِ أنَّ رسولَ اللَّه -صلى اللَّه عليه وسلم- تُوُفِّىَ وهو ابنُ ثَلَاثٍ وسِتِّينَ سَنَةً، وتُوُفِّىَ أبو بكرٍ وهو ابنُ ثَلَاثٍ وسِتِّينَ سَنَةً، وتُوُفِّىَ عمرُ وهو ابنُ ثَلَاثٍ وسِتِّينَ سَنَةً (٢٨). وقال عَنْتَرَةُ (٢٩):
فيها اثْنَتَانِ وأَرْبَعُونَ حَلُوبَةً ... سُودًا كخَافِيَةِ الغُرَابِ الأَسْحَمِ
ولأنَّ الدِّرْهَمَ ذُكِرَ تَفْسِيرًا، ولهذا لا تَجِبُ به زِيَادَةٌ على العَدَدِ المَذْكُورِ، فكان تَفْسِيرًا لِجَمِيعِ ما قبلَه، لأنَّها تَحْتَاجُ إلى تَفْسِيرٍ، وهو صَالِحٌ لِتَفْسِيرِها، فوَجَبَ حَمْلُه على ذلك. وهذا المَعْنَى مَوْجُودٌ في قَوْلِه: ألْفٌ وثَلَاثَةُ دَرَاهِمَ. وسائِر الصُّوَرِ المَذْكُورَةِ، فعلى قولِ مَن لا يَجْعَلُ المُجْمَلَ من جِنْسِ المُفَسَّرِ لو (٣٠) قال: بِعْتُكَ هذا
