Chapter: Regarding those whom it is forbidden to marry, combining [two women] in marriage, and other matters.
Prohibition regarding marriage is of two types: prohibition due to the essence [of the person] and prohibition due to combination [with another]. It is further divided into two categories: prohibition by blood relationship and prohibition by reason [of legal cause]. The foundation for this is the Book, the Sunnah, and Consensus (Ijma'). As for the Book, it is the saying of Allah the Exalted: "Forbidden to you are your mothers." (And the verse before it and the verse after it). As for the Sunnah, Abu Hurayra reported from the Messenger of Allah - peace and blessings of Allah be upon him - that he said: "A man shall not combine a woman and her paternal aunt, nor [a woman] and her maternal aunt." Agreed upon. From 'A'isha, may Allah be pleased with her, she said: The Messenger of Allah - peace and blessings of Allah be upon him - said: "Breastfeeding prohibits what lineage prohibits." Reported by Muslim. The Ummah has reached consensus on the prohibition of that which Allah the Exalted has explicitly forbidden.
1144 - Issue: He said: (And those prohibited to marry by blood relations are: mothers, daughters, sisters, paternal aunts, maternal aunts, nieces by brother, and nieces by sister).
