136 - Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn narrated to me, Abū ʿUmar al-Ḍarīr narrated to me, ʿImrān ibn Khālid narrated to us, ʿAbd al-Jalīl al-Qaysī narrated to us, saying: When Ibn Ziyād ordered that al-Shajjāʿ be mutilated, the one who was to carry that out came to her with iron tools and ropes. She said: "Stay away from me, so that I may speak words that whoever hears them will memorize them from me." He said: So she praised Allah and extolled Him, then she said: "This is my last day in this world, and it is not to be grieved over, and I hope it will be the first of my days in the Hereafter, which is the day to be longed for." Then she said: "By Allah, my knowledge of its impermanence is what made me abstain from remaining in it and made all its trials easy for me. So I do not wish to hasten what Allah has delayed, nor to delay what Allah has hastened." Then she was brought forward and mutilated until she died.
