156 - Al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to me, saying: Abū al-ʿAtāhiya recited to me of his own poetry:

I bore with patience and displayed no grief, yet you will never see a person who panics except that he ultimately turns to patience.

And though I display patience, I am inwardly folded upon a sorrow hotter than burning embers.

And I control the tears from my eyes, though at times a rebellious tear rushes forth and flows from among the first.
